Access

Desktop app for Windows 10 or 11 on 64-bit PCs and Apple Silicon Macs on macOS 14.4 or newer. It captures microphone and system audio, so it can record audible meeting apps without a browser extension or native meeting integration.

Processing

In self-hosted use, recordings, transcripts, notes, and settings stay on the device; meeting content goes only to the transcription or AI endpoints and optional webhooks the user chooses, and those endpoints can be local. Earshot says Plus passes meeting audio and text through its servers to AI providers and discards them after each response, while retaining account data and monthly usage totals. The product page says Cloud sync is rolling out, but the FAQ and privacy policy describe it as not yet available.

Questions to settle

1. Are Me and Them channels enough, or must each remote speaker be named?
2. Do your chosen AI endpoints or Earshot Plus fit the meeting's privacy requirements?
3. Can your policy accept the current installer, key-storage, and hosted-sharing caveats?

Limits to check

• Earshot records the microphone as Me and system audio as Them. That separates local from remote audio, not one remote speaker from another; the checked pages do not document named remote-speaker labels.
• The README lists import of existing audio and video, but the checked official sources do not publish codec, file-size, or duration limits. Test the exact format before relying on imports.
• The download page says both current installers are unsigned and describes bypassing SmartScreen or Gatekeeper. Its Mac statement conflicts with the README and security policy, which say production or tagged Mac releases are signed and notarized; verify the current Mac package.
• Self-hosted provider keys are plaintext in config and readable by same-user processes. The documented LAN Whisper setup is plain HTTP and unauthenticated by default; use a trusted network or add TLS and authentication.
• Plus advertises hosted share links and says Cloud sync is rolling out. The privacy policy does not document share-link storage, retention, or access-control mechanisms and says sync has not launched; verify current behavior before sharing or syncing sensitive notes.
• Earshot Plus accounts are personal. Account sharing and running several people's meetings through one subscription are prohibited; each person needs a separate account and subscription.
• The user remains responsible for participant notice and recording consent where required.
• Only the latest release receives security fixes. The checked sources do not publish supported meeting languages or establish capture reliability, transcription quality, or summary accuracy.
