Where you can use it

Access

The macOS and Windows desktop app captures system audio and microphone input, so it can transcribe audio from any meeting app without a meeting bot. Mobile apps use the device microphone for in-person capture. Granola's web interface is for viewing and editing existing notes and cannot capture meetings.

Limits to check

• Granola uses no meeting bot and starts capture only after the user opens or starts a note. Desktop capture includes combined system and microphone audio. It does not retain audio or video, provide playback, or support importing pre-recorded audio files.
• Typed notes guide the AI enhancement, but Granola says it can also generate enhanced notes from the transcript alone.
• Basic exposes only the last 30 days of notes in the app. Older notes remain stored but inaccessible until the workspace upgrades; Business and Enterprise list unlimited history.
• Granola's dedicated mobile guide documents iOS and Android in-person capture, and iOS also supports outbound phone calls. Mobile cannot capture virtual-meeting audio from another mobile app. Its generic transcription guide still says capture requires desktop or iPhone, so the current pages conflict; confirm Android capture in the app if it is required.
• Granola lists 10 desktop languages and 17 mobile languages. Desktop users can change among supported languages, while mobile uses one language per meeting.
• Granola's current export guide says CSV includes transcripts, while its current subscription guide says the same export excludes full transcripts. The pages do not reconcile this; confirm an export before relying on CSV portability.
• The user remains responsible for participant consent. Granola offers optional automated chat notices and a video watermark, but these controls do not replace that responsibility. Notes are private by default unless the user shares them.
• On Free and Business, Granola says anonymized data may be used for its own model improvement by default and each user can opt out. It says third-party providers are contractually barred from training on the data. Enterprise organizations are opted out by default and admins can enforce the setting.
• Granola says all service data is stored in the United States and that it is not HIPAA- or FERPA-compliant.
• Notes and transcripts are retained indefinitely unless a retention setting applies. Non-Enterprise users can choose transcript deletion from 1 day through 1 year or Off; Enterprise admins can enforce a workspace policy. Only transcripts are deleted, while notes remain and chat or regeneration quality can degrade.
