Where you can use it
- Access
- Desktop app on macOS and Windows for standard Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams meeting links. Fathom's current help pages conflict about other no-link capture: its general device guide says it is unsupported, while a newer guide says the new experience supports Slack Huddles.
- Platforms
- macOS · Windows · Zoom · Google Meet · Microsoft Teams
- Processing
- Online service from Fathom; its security page says all Fathom data is stored in the United States.
Questions to settle
- Does the exact capture mode and device support every meeting you need?
- How will participants be notified and consent recorded where required?
- Do US storage, model-improvement, and retention controls fit company policy?
Limits to check
- Free lists unlimited recordings and transcriptions, a choice of beta bot-free or bot capture, instant AI call summaries, clips, playlists, and search across calls.
- Free includes five advanced summaries each month; after that, the General/Enhanced summary template remains available. Premium includes unlimited advanced summaries.
- The new bot-free experience is rolling out in phases for Mac users with English-language meetings. Windows continues to use the previous experience.
- Fathom's general device guide says it does not support Chromebooks, Linux, mobile devices, tablets, phone calls or other calls without a meeting link, webinars, or breakout rooms. A newer meeting-types guide says the new experience supports Slack Huddles as impromptu meetings, so confirm that no-link exception.
- In the new experience, Transcript Only saves a transcript and summary but no recording; Audio Only captures audio locally on the Mac without video; Audio & Video uses a meeting bot.
- Fathom's external-recording guide says uploaded calls are not supported.
- Automatic consent emails apply only under Fathom's stated conditions and are not sent for same-day, impromptu, or unscheduled meetings. Fathom says the recording owner remains responsible for participant consent.
- Transcripts cannot be downloaded directly; they can be copied to the clipboard. Fathom's pricing page separately lists unlimited call downloads and clips.
- Fathom says its AI subprocessors are contractually barred from training on user data. Fathom uses de-identified customer data to improve its proprietary models unless the user opts out; Team organizations can opt out all users.
- Fathom says all data is stored in the United States. Automatic retention rules require the Team Edition Business plan and apply one policy to every team call.
