Questions to settle
- Do you need source links on every answer, or can you use Deep Research and check the originals?
- Do the file, context, and research limits fit the plan you would use?
- Can you enable Keep Activity for connected Google services, and are its data-use terms acceptable?
Limits to check
- Not every response includes source links. When Gemini provides them, they can point to public websites, uploaded files, or connected Google Workspace content; open decisive sources.
- Deep Research requires sign-in and age 18 or older. It has daily and concurrent request limits, with higher report limits on Google AI Pro and Ultra.
- A prompt accepts up to 10 files, subject to availability. Each non-video file is capped at 100 MB and each video at 2 GB. Total video length is capped at 5 minutes and total audio at 10 minutes; Pro or Ultra raises those limits to 1 hour and 3 hours, respectively.
- Google lists context windows of 32k tokens without an AI plan, 128k on Plus, and 1 million on Pro or Ultra. Compute-based usage limits may change with capacity, and free Deep Research may be unavailable during high demand.
- Connecting personal Gmail, Docs, or Drive requires Keep Activity. Gemini can return outdated connected content, so review the sources listed after its response. The Workspace connection cannot read comments or images in Docs or Gmail, or pictures and videos in Drive.
- For personal accounts with Keep Activity on, Google says saved chats and shared files may be used to improve services, including training generative AI models, and some are examined by people. Chats selected for that process are disconnected from the account and retained for three years. With Keep Activity off, future chats are not used to train unless you send feedback, but are held for up to 72 hours, can still be examined for safety, and make some connected apps unavailable.
