Where model requests go Junie · CLI · OpenAI BYOK
With OpenAI BYOK, LLM requests go directly to OpenAI. Inference region and separate orchestration location are not established here.
Limits of this answer: OpenAI BYOK only. Exact model, region and a separate orchestration host are unknown.
Model hosting is separate from where commands run. A local tool can still use a remote AI model.
“LLM” means language model. “Inference” means that model generating a response. “Orchestration” means coordinating the agent’s next steps. The machine editing your files and the service answering model requests can be in different places. Here, BYOK means “bring your own key”: Junie uses your OpenAI API key for model requests.
Why this source is relevant: OpenAI is among the supported BYOK providers. Direct provider requests do not establish an exact model, region or separate orchestration host.

no JetBrains AI subscription is required. Where to read the full passage: How it works; Supported providers
